Since 2016, the Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) has partnered with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) to provide technical assistance to cold storage companies in Nigeria. The interest and support from GCCA membership has already resulted in four companies receiving guidance and advice from GCCA members with two more planned for September. In August 2017, Conestoga Cold Storage Chairman Larry Laurin and President Greg Laurin with GCCA International Projects Director Amanda Brondy, to Owerri, Nigeria, to share guidance with regional operators. GCCA member ColdHubs is starting up a business in the fruit and vegetable market for solar-powered cold storage.

GCCA recently partnered with Cultivating New Frontiers in Africa (CNFA) to complete a cold chain assessment in Liberia as part of a project supporting agribusiness development. The team of experts examined in detail the needs, demand, cost, and the sustainability for a center that could provide training and introduce new technologies to farmers, transporters, aggregators and others working along the value chains for perishable foods. The team agreed that the launch of a Postharvest Technology Service Center is feasible and could be sustainable.
